TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Creating padding to counter nerve injury

Postby LeftRightShoot » Thu 16 May, 2019 12:46 pm

Hi, I've had trouble over the years with tight backpack waist straps pinching a nerve on the front of my left hip bone. I'm skinny and have no hips for the pack to rest on so I find myself having to make it super tight to save Mt shoulders and upper back. When it pinches it is quite bad oain at the site. My physio has recommended making some padding for this side. I was thinking something like a doughnut shape of foam.

Has anyone got any experience with this? What type of material did you use and how did you keep it in place?

Cheers

I have very little natural padding on my hips and find I need to supplement what is there. All I do is fold a microfibre towel into a suitable shape - making sure there are no wrinkles - position it carefully with a long edge tucked into the knickers and pull the close-fitting baselayer down over the top. It doesn't shift until I need to drop the daks for whatever reason. May not be thick enough for you, however. But hipbelt padding definitely works best when it's under your clothes so the pressure isn't transfered onto seams. I tried CCF but it isn't robust enough - it gets compressed into uselessness too quickly.

Same experience using CCF for a shoe insert, lasted 10? kms.

I'd contact a specialist .. like https://www.specialtyfoams.com.au/our-p ... yurethane/?

P.S> no experience with them .. just a google result.
