TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Mozzie net to suit A frame tarp

Postby Neo » Sat 16 Feb, 2019 10:35 pm

Hi is there an easy to buy mozzie net that is easy to rig with a tarp?

Off the shelf the STS and 360 models require an offset overhead hanging spot. Other cheapies are either a hoop or full box style.

Whereas a classic A frame tarp setup would have a pole at either end like a triangular prism... Running an inside ridge string would be easy enough.

Should I just get some nice thin lace curtain material from Spotlight!?!

What about this Borah Gear one?

I've got one and am really happy with it. Made for tarp use.
Add bit of cord with a linelock thing on each elastic loop which attaches to each pole holding up the tarp.

Looks a bit awkward. I like the palatial space when using a tarp.

Maybe a double 360° one would do if I added a foot end string.

I use an STS Nano and it works well. You do need a line under your Tarp to tie it off
I travel with a full length mat and cinch the net off under the mat. You would need some type of quilt because the net still touches around the feet and sides. Have never tried with stakes.

I have an Enlightened Equipement Bivy high on my wish list. Hope to buy one soon

This.

I commissioned Evan to make me a single man tapered version with a heavy bathtub floor so I could do away with a groundsheet.

I didn't want to go for a full net tent, just a step up from the cap with head net.

Spotlight has a bolt of regular mozzie net 2.1x5m for $18 but it's a pinch short of making it into a half side net for a 3x3 tarp.

There is a full tent in my boot so the tarp and headnet will suffice, or book in somewhere.

Hi Stuie
How much do those net tents weigh? Couldn’t find the weight online.
Cheers
