[Postage question] How to wrap backpack?

Once an item is sold, found or thread is no longer needed we move it here. These maybe helpful for historic reasons.

[Postage question] How to wrap backpack?

Postby Neo » Tue 07 Jul, 2020 2:47 pm

Hello
Considering selling a used backpack or two. What would be the best way to send it in the mail, has anyone sent an overnight sized backpack?

I am guessing flattend in either a big postage satchel or flat cardboard box.

Unfortunately size or shape of an item can greatly influence the sending cost.

I use two large tough bags from Auspost and slide them over each end of the pack so they overlap in the middle. Then I just tape where the two bags overlap.

Simple and cheap!

I had good result using stretch pallet wrap, wrapping a few times around package. Ends up nice and small for postage cost.

Get a quote from Transdirect couriers. I find they are usually much cheaper than Aus post (and even cheaper if you become a member).

I would just wrap the pack in tough plastic or cut down a box. Or bubble wrap covered in a rubbish bag. I save plastic bags from Snowys etc...

Thanks folks.
Just listed three types of backpack in market square.

I save the good bits like bubble wrap etc. Could check at the PO but have just taken a punt on postage. Probably go witg glad wrap, cardboard, tape if they find a new back.

The volume of it wrapped or boxed will be pretty much the same since the 3 largest dimensions are taken regardless of how irregular the shape is.

Box it up and send it. Remove hip belt and strap everything down tight and make it as flat as possible.

Can also vouch for Transdirect. Good prices. Sometimes inconvenient drop off locations.

PackSend can also have good rates depending on location, plus they have drop off points literally everywhere.

Recently AusPost have implemented a if it fits, it sends, regardless of weight, not sure if one of those bags would fit for you or not.

With Transdirect, I always get it picked up so not sure about ‘drop off locations’. If no one is home you give an ‘authority to leave’ when booking and they will leave it at the back door, side of house etc.

Since Transdirect is a courier ‘hub‘, it can depend a bit on which courier you select.

For example, I found out today that Couriers Please allows a ‘refusal to send’ where they don’t charge if they turn up for a collection and you don’t actually send the package!
