Button size for Tablet use PC also

Postby taswegian » Sun 26 Jan, 2014 7:54 am

I'd prefer the very small buttons beside each topic be larger.
Perhaps rectangular as that won't increase line spacing.
I do a lot of viewing and some posting on my 8" or my 10.1 Samsung Note.
Latter has a stylus so that makes a direct hit easier.
With big fingers those tiny buttons are just that, tiny.

I look at the reviews on Tapatalk, but haven't been convinced I want to go that way and can't comment if that makes it easier in that department.
Not having used it I am perfectly happy with standard format, just the small footprint for those micro buttons.

Is that something easily accomplished? There's plenty of screen space to marginally widen them.
Regards
Richard

thanks Strider, but does that make navigation with large fingers easy?

Or is it just so one can organise, keep track of things in a more constructive way?

As said, I am more than happy with the organisation part and have no reason to change on that behalf. Shortcuts and links to particular posts are so easy to add to other apps I have specifically setup to make life easy in that area.

But if it overcomes accessing forum topics on the smaller screens by way of larger buttons then that's different.
Most posters in regards to Tapatalk just say how good it is, rarely do you find out how functional it is when it comes to things like this.
Can't find anything on the Tapatalk site either.

I suppose one could read into the omission re button size, then one could assume it's not an issue. But I wouldn't hang anything off that sort of assumption.

I see this is tiny also even on a PC so changed the topic at top.
Not so much an issue with a mouse but wonder how a touch screen laptop would fare with big digits?

With smartphones and tablets, it is easy to use pinch-zoom to enlarge the page. From there it is a cinch to tap the zoomed button with a clumsy finger...

Michael if I pinch and zoom then more times than not those boxes become dead.
If it was as simple as that I wouldn't bother putting up the post.
I've tried it on both my Samsungs and neither are much good.
Phone HTC Velocity works okay, but generally keep off that due to screen size.

I wondered why we have such a tiny button when there is so much room for a bigger one, even on phones.

Wouldn't have to be much bigger and would make more screen active for that routine.

On your devices, why don't you use the mobile skin?

Too see the new posts in a topic all you have to do is touch the > on the right of the topic subject.

As for the buttons becoming dead after pinch and zoom, that sounds like a device issue, not a bushwalk.com issue. Have you tried a different browser?

Tapatalk is great for small mobile devices.
There are no small icons that I have trouble clicking on like I do using web sites on my phone.
If you use multiple forums that use tapatalk, like I do, they are all there at the touch of a button.
You can touch any part of the title that you want to view, you don't have to touch 1small button.
Try it. If you don't like it you can always stop using it.

Yes could be hardware re buttons not working when zoomed in - they are both Samsung.
Then again might be the browser. Will get another and see.
I always like the stock standard that came with the devices.

I'll give the Mobile skin a go, but my preference is for all my viewing to be the same.
Just grew up that way with all my software setup exactly same on each machine. So much quicker to operate.

Every time I think Tapatalk I go there and about to install then read the feedback and there are often a lot of similar criticism so just back out.
Yes you're right Tax, I can always uninstall. Thanks

I tend to use the mobile version on the ipad and phone -- and only desktop on my PC. See how this works.
Can make the buttons bigger - but it seems that it is a bit of a hack attempt and a bigger issue.
People either love tap-a-talk or hate it (I don't love it) - worth a try if the mobile skin does not work for you.

Thanks

Matt :)

Thanks Matt. I've used this mobile form for a while and yes I think it's good.
Will persevere.
I also changed to Naked Browser and that seems to handle the zoom issues better.
Edit: this is good. Perseverance is paying dividends.
Plus the browser probably helps.
