Question: Excel File Extensions

Postby Explorer_Sam » Sun 07 Oct, 2012 8:22 pm

G'day,

Does anyone know what file extensions are allowed for a Microsoft excel document? I'm trying to upload an excel document to this topic: viewtopic.php?f=37&t=10759

Thanks in advance :D

The number of document types (by extension) allowed to be uploaded is very limited for security reasons. We've expanded on the default phpBB list on this site a little, but I would not like to allow Excel documents to be uploaded as they can use MS Office macros which are a well known vector for malicious code.

You could print to PDF, PNG or similar and upload that or otherwise you may need to host it elsewhere (eg, Dropbox or similar).

You can upload the excel file to google docs (or alternative if you don't have/want a google account). Then you can just link to that, saves dealing with cumbersome attachments, and you can also share/update the file at your whim.
