Great Black Tie Party, thanks to the floods and to Tenille!

Postby Son of a Beach » Fri 08 Apr, 2011 10:30 am

My wife turned 30 a few weeks ago, and for two years beforehand, we had planned for a formal party on a boat cruise on the Tamar River. Unfortunately, the date of the party coincided with Launceston's biggest floods in decades, and just ONE HOUR before the party was scheduled to set sail, we were phoned to say that the cruise had to be cancelled because it was unsafe to take the boat out.

I then went through a VERY STRESSFUL few minutes trying to figure out what to do. We had a large number of guests currently getting dressed in formal attire, and about to turn up to a party which could not go ahead as planned. I did a quick ring around of a couple of venues... "Hello, can you cater for a party for me... yes in 45 minutes time... yes for 35 people... yes, tonight!". Thankfully the second venue I called was exceptionally helpful, and with just 45 minutes notice, Tenille and her crew at the QC Brasserie (Colonial Hotel) did a fantastic job. I'm sure there were some shortcuts taken and favours called in, but considering the restrictions they had to work with, they pulled it off brilliantly.

THANKS TENILLE!!! :-)

...and besides, the photos came out much better than they would have done on the boat. The decor certainly suited the formal attire very well.

The party theme was "Black Tie - with a hat". My wife designed and made her own fantastic dress as well as designed and made her hat to match. (I helped make the cake! - I assembled, sculptured, and decorated)

We got some great photos of the night, but I really like the set that our friend did in B/W/Sepia. Here's a few of them...

People have been known to hold black tie parties in the bush. Can't lay my hands on a photo at present unfortunately. (%^&*$ digital cameras - there is never enough disk space to keep them all handy....)

Still, with floods, it may not have been too pleasant.

Neat that the cake matches the hat!
Looks like a good party
