Horses for courses. Fibre services have a place alongside wireless, and can deliver higher speeds and lower latency and don't have radio spectrum issues. Whereas wireless offers more flexibility. It's not all about "100Mbits" peak speed. You can dig one hole, deliver a LOT of fibre, and change endpoints once new tech emerges (ie: better transmission standards, example basic dialup modem tech vs ADLS2+, both delivered on copper).

http://people.eng.unimelb.edu.au/rtucke ... a10043.pdfAs someone who uses the Telstra 3G network, which is theoretically 14Mbits IIRC, I can tell you I rarely get above 2Mbits, so the reality is not what it seems. Congestion, especially at peak times, is a big factor at the moment with wireless. A multi faceted approach with fibre at the core is the best strategy.
