Film set required....

Postby stepbystep » Tue 27 Jul, 2010 1:12 pm

Hi folks,
A film producer looking to make a film in Tassie is seeking locations for shooting. Some on this forum may be able to help.
Filming will happen in Jan/Feb at this stage.

The specifics for this location are as follows;
1/ An old hut beside a lake, surrounded by bush - ideally log cabin style but could be made of other materials, but has to look 'rustic'.
2/ Has to be accessible by vehicle (car & small truck).
3/ The set would be in use for 2-3 weeks.

OK, straight away we can rule out many of our favourite and much loved huts as they are only accessible via walking(thank god I hear you say).
Straight away we are thinking of Central Highlands and huts on private land, but it could be anywhere if the required elements are present.

In an attempt to keep everyone happy the producers would be happy to donate some $$$ to the upkeep of the hut, the crew would be on the small side and the utmost respect to the location is to be shown.
Being a film set we can cheat many things so all suggestions welcome.
Any suggestions or contacts would be really appreciated and I'm happy to answer any questions via the forum or PM.

Cheers, Dan

Hi Dan
I guess the boat shed at Dove Lake is inadequate...
How close to a lake? Would a stream do? There's the Mt Kate hut that's pretty rustic / cool, iconic for its "old" look.
If I think of something I'll let you know.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for that.
Yeah the boat shed at Dove Lake is no good, it has to be a 'proper' hut that can be taken over for the duration.
A large portion of the film needs to be shot at this location and I think we would spoil about 6 million tourist photos if we went to Dove Lake.
Mt Kate Hut looks nice, will stick it in the mix.
Cheers

Isn't that a good enough reason to do it?

maybe the base of Mt Field next to / right on- the river with careful angles of view - the stone log-fire huts there? Plenty of room, multiple huts and good access and they might let you play with the huts / hut a bit? etc....theres a lake 2 mins up the road at least - untill someone has a better idea?

How about the Hobart Walking Club hut at Lake Dobson? Not a log hut, but certainly rustic!

Thanks folks, all will go in the mix, had thought about HWC hut already...
When we have a good list, I will take the Producer and DOP on a recce to see what will work best.
We haven't ruled out building our own hut, that way we just need the lake!!!

BTW lake far more preferable than a river :(

when i was a kid, i used to visit lake king william for a few weeks each summer at a minimum. at the northernish end on the western shore, there was a hut, (that i assume now was a shooters hut) it never had anyone in it, but it did have non perishable food on the shelves... looking back into my childhood memory bank, i think this would be just the sort of hut your looking for... but i cant remember an exact location (i havnt been there in 10 or 12 years)

Thanks Macca81 - good info.
Just giving the thread a bit of a bump....
I have received several suggestions and will be undertaking a 'recce' in a month or so to find the most suitable location.
Any more suggestions very welcome.
Cheers, Dan

Maybe if you had to build one, you could do it on the Reece Dam...
That way, when going to find a suitable location, you could do a 'reece recce', catchy eh?

Sorry
