Work near Cradle Mtn that provides staff accommodation?

Postby juney » Wed 30 Jun, 2010 10:02 pm

Anyone know of casual work options around Cradle?
I've decided that I want to come to Tassie to live and work in the Cradle Mtn area so I can get out and explore somewhere I love on my days off. I'm looking at a 6 month stint somewhere that staff accommodation is provided. Through searching the web I have discovered Cradle Mountain Lodge and Cradle Chateau and applied for both in the hospitality department, however neither need anyone right now. So....just wondering if anyone knows of any other businesses in the area that I could look in to. My experience is hospitality and naturopathy, but I don't mind too much what I do. Anyone know of anywhere else?
Cheers,
Juney :D

I lived in Sheffield, and it's only 45 minutes to an hour away from Cradle Mtn, and also within easy reach of Walls of Jerusalem and the ocean. Might pay to look around here too.
All good things are wild, and free.

Yeah, its within easy reach of places like sheffield, even the coast or west. Parks do employ a few around the visitor centre over summer... i'd call them and ask about the application process. Probably an idea to just go there, for parks it would help if you had already done most of the walks around there beforehand (which (will become obvious) is not all that necessary for employment and kinda defeats the purpose but may help... anything to 'squeeze a toe in the door')

Hi, I work and live up at Cradle at the Lodge.

It is the wrong time of year - most properties are still trying to lower staff levels.

If you apply during Sep/Oct/Nov you will have no problem getting a job as an F&B attendant or Housekeeper or maybe Front Office.
We go through ALOT of staff and there are always jobs coming up from Sep - April.
Accomodation at the lodge is pretty sweet. About 200m from the Park boundary and costs $40 per week including all bills.
If you are coming up over summer I'd highly recommend working at the Lodge, not the chateau for a bunch of reasons.

The HR manager is a friend of mine, let me know if you need an more info.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll check out the Parks option and also Sheffield. Otherwise I will probably have to wait till they need someone at the Lodge. Thanks Joel for the heads up on Lodge vs Chateau. I'm with Macca, curious to know why "not the chateau".
Cheers,
Juney

It's just a bit crap with lot's of dissapointed guests and a really bad vibe.
Check out the reviews on tripadvisor.com if you want a bit more info.
And if you want a bit of a laugh search for Cradle Mountain Boutique Chalet and check out those reviews.
Then look at the Lodge's reviews.

Hey juney, I'll save you some time. Parks are not looking for staff at the moment at Cradle and probably wont for a while yet. They just filled 3 positions at Cradle Mt.
You really need to get a foot in during summer when there is alot of work.

Hi Joel, Ive stayed at the Chataeu, and didnt have a problem with it.
I thought it was very nice but gotta admit, the atmosphere at your lodge seemed more lively with that fire going in the middle of the room.

yeah, have seen some pretty poor reviews on the Chateau. Gotta laugh about the one, complaining that there was animal droppings on their balcony - that's hilarious
Thanks for the parks update Joel. I have pm'd you with some more questions.
Cheers,
Juney :D

My wife and I stayed at the Lodge a couple of years ago and loved it, a bit pricey but no worse than any other place in a similar setting. We also won a bottle of wine a the trivia contest in the bar one night :D Only complaint, such as it is, is that the meals in the bistro are far nicer and better value for money than the meals in the restaurant. One day I'd like to walk the OT South to North and spend a couple of days at the Lodge on completion. To work there for a season would be brilliant.

Glad we didn't stay at the Chateau, those reviews pull no punches!

update
I have just been offered a position at Cradle Lodge WOO HOO :D
Joel, I have been put in the same house as you - funny the way things work out.
Thanks everyone for your advice. This thread definitely has a happy ending. :)
Now to rearrange my life and start organising the loooong drive down.
So glad to be coming down in winter. Walls and Cradle in winter are my favourite walking places in the world. HOORAY

That's great Juney, especially at this time of year. Are you going to tell us where you're coming from?
Anyhow, welcome (? back) to Tassie. Enjoy! :D
