Bequests and donations

Thu 23 Nov, 2017 5:30 am

I am reviewing my will and have been thinking of making a bequest or two to worthwhile causes. I might even donate some before the will comes into effect.

My interests are more in the environmental/bushwalking line, and I have been thinking of organisations like:

The Australian Wildlife Conservancy - http://www.australianwildlife.org/

Bush Heritage Australia - http://www.bushheritage.org.au/

Nature Conservation Trust of NSW - http://nct.org.au/

All three of these buy land and restore it to its natural state.

I could also donate to something like National Parks Association (https://npansw.org/).
NPA is more of a lobby group for national parks which, while a worthwhile thing to do, does not have the same sort of concrete outcome as the three above.

So I am wondering if there are other organisations with environmental goals that I should be considering.

In Tasmania there is Wildcare which also has a specific fund for remote walking tracks (not higher profile tracks)

Also other funds for specific purposes

There is a $6,000 limit on donations online but I can help facilitate any larger donations or bequests.

This is really good, although I am puzzled by track maintenance in wilderness areas. I thought the idea was that there be no artificial works in those areas.

What sort of tracks are they maintaining?
