Oh yeah! Budget or Avis, pretty much the same off-bitumen policies last time I checked.

When you overhear others at work talking about their "big" day in the bush, a day walk to the figure 8 pool or Mermaid pools or wedding cake rock and all you can do is cluck your tongue in disgust, sniff quickly at the air and hiss "amateurs" under your breath whilst bathing in a glow of superiority and an aura of unmatched egotism....

No, wait!... that's how you know you've become a total wanker not a bushwalker. My mistake.

Its leading into summer and your hoping the weekend is cool and cloudy. With perhaps an afternoon storm.

and one more...

you have been a bit over enthusiastic with the dwr spray and accidently waterproofed part of your deck while spraying your jacket. After rain the water on the deck is now beading instead of soaking in haha.. it works!

All just brilliant and funny.

...your five favourite scents are (in no particular order):

Lemon (Boronia citriodora)
Mint (Prostanthera spp)
Eucalypt (Angophora, Corymbia and Eucalyptus spp)
Rainforest (what Rupert Brooke called'...that thrilling, sweet and rotten, unforgettable, unforgotten...smell' OK, he was talking about an English riverine forest, but it's the same sort of smell and stop quibbling.)
Chocolate.

What about “the smell after rain” - which is apparently mainly an Australian thing.

It's called petrichor, and I thought about including it, but there are too many non-bushwalker types who also get off on it - farmers, gardeners and the like.

When you can't find anything you wear that is made of cotton.

When a 500ml dish liquid lasts 12 months.

When you no longer pay rent/board/rates but still dream of a bush block somewhere, bordering a NP.

When you finally get the knack of fried rice and get more creative with leftovers! (camping more so).

Had to laugh...glad it's not just me!

Plus...

When you prefer sleeping outside under the stars even when at home.

When you make relationship decisions based on which potential partner is most likely to be supportive of your habit.

When you consider each everyday expense by comparing it to how many day's or week's of bushwalking you could do for the same budget.

When you happily will pay nearly $800 for a new sleeping bag but head straight to the op shop for everyday clothes.

When you have a whole bookshelf devoted to maps.

When you have made a bushfire evacuation plan for home and apart from the dog the only things you want to take with you is your bushwalking gear.

.... You have a couple of hours in the 'smoke and you get more excited about a browse in the hiking shops than you do about browsing in the flyfishing shop. :o
Although I couldn't help but think that the new lightweight, glow in the dark guy ropes that I purchased would make a fantastic body on some night flies
I guess once a flytyer always a flytyer
