international trade is far more intermeshed than it was in past world wars and you had western countries that were still running empires especially in the first world war , and they controlled their own trade and they had a lot of cheap labour available to keep them rich.
now if the superpowers go to war against each other, their income from international trade will evaporate and soon they'll be suing for peace to try and get it back again.
htey are quite short sighted and forget how their armed forces are funded by overseas trade with their potential enemies.. meanwhile no one wants to stop trading to reduce each others income because they cant fund their defence forces,,,, ironical situation....
