Feeling so old today

Postby Moondog55 » Thu 15 Sep, 2016 1:15 pm

That I am thinking about changing my forum name to "Walked with Dinosaurs" or something similar.
Maybe that is why I like skiing; when skiing the phrase "Going downhill fast " has positive connotations.
Only good thing about the next birthday is I get half price seasons pass if my legs and hips last that long of course

Nah it's only the crappy grey weather and the sad sight of the snow fields slowly washing away that's getting to you Moondog. It gets to me every year.
My regret this winter is that I only got in one day of cross country skiing (after a long break from it). I/we used to ski lake Mountain when ever there was enough snow.
The planned switch is from resort downhill to touring. Had it with lift queues, slow lifts that stop and start way too often and the ridiculous prices (for everything).
Mind you those half price days will be good when they come not to mention the free lift tickets in about 7 or so years time!!!!!!!

There's nothing like a horrible cold, wet, grey day for making you feel old.
Unless it's a stinking hot, stuffy, dry day.
Or watching a lot of younger people running around the way you used to.
Or a bunch of people your age who just happen to be in better shape (damn them!).
Or . . . ah, bugger it! Just give me enough chocolate and I'm 16 again!

Hey come on Moondog, you still woke up and I'm sure will be many more snow seasons for you to frolick like a youngin' in. The sun will be shining again in a day or two and you'll feel the warmth of it on your face and feel alive again. :)

If that does lift your spirits what will??????????

We only put in one day on the lifts at Falls Creek this year and we both ski, so $238.00 for one day....half a hero pass  I can't wait to be 65 Moondog.
Oh and the better half did another while I was out on the cross country trails......so our cost for 2 days $407.00....only $50.00 to hire cross country at windy corner.
Still way cheaper per annum than smoking (ex smoker) and a hell of a lot better for me.

But I promised The Boss than next season will be a quick "in & Out" for less than a month ROFL
In a months camping you would probably only get in 4 or 5 days on the piste so it's still $100- a day
I've got some older CC skis here for free if you want them Neil, still usable even if a little old fashioned

Well, happy birfdy, Moondog. Sorry I don't have any spare hips or knees. Are yours tradeable-in for spiffy metal ones?
Love your quote, btw

I remember that once upon a time lift tickets were free for over 65s or some such. Far too many old farts around now for that, of course. :( Half price better than not, I suppose.
Enjoy those burnt sausages.

Well don't ride a motorcycle and keep falling off; don't run marathons and wearing out knees and hips; look after yourself better than I have and you may well feel different when you get old enough to be as old as I am

To add another insult and some good news
My pension has been approved after an objection was lodged so that means I get $17- a fortnite and a healthcare card
I need the card because I've just been referred for an urgent total hip replacement but not until after the ski season with the current waiting list
I see a lot of Panadol Forte and Endone in my near future
That's the good news
MY daughter just called me an "Old Man" and I'm insulted

My father in law recently had a hip replacement after years of pain.

He has never felt better, and the recovery is amazing.

As soon as he woke from the general anaesthetic, the doctor arrived and made him stand up and walk around the hospital room. Gone are the days of being bed ridden for weeks.

Within two weeks he was walking 10km a day, pain free. He's so excited he wants to book the other one in ASAP.

Mr Dog,

Please tell me that's a typo and our Government is not giving you $8.50 per week NETT! Such largesse!! How can, we the people, afford this extra burden on our National debt??

I am speechless.

I'll try and buy only one bottle of chanpagne a week. After all it isn't your money or the goverments money It is simply a return of the money I have been paying into the national welfare fund all my life, or at least between 1966 when I started work and 2000 when the legislation was repealed 7.5 % of my taxable income it was or to put it another way for every dollar of tax I paid 7.5 cents was put into that fund
When some weeks I was paying $1000- tax that is a lot of money
Some of you young blokes forget that at times we were paying 66 cents in the dollar over a certain income and in a 13 day a fortnite 12 hour a day job the money was OK until you crashed

So its not a typo!!!

I agree it is your money, what I'm struggling with is the pitiful amount. I realise the Health care card is the big ticket item here..At least if you get bitten by a snow snake you will be covered.
Forget the champagne you'll be lucky to have one lunch at Subway a week and only if its a 6inch or a wrap. .

By the way I'm not that young-63 this month. But thanks for the compliment!!

OK So I'll save all year to buy something decent.
I'm still waiting for the other doctor in the family ; the new American unit. His comments might be more interesting than the "Oh *&%$#!" muttered by my own GP when he opened the email with the X-Ray pictures and the radiologists report Might also explain his readiness to prescribe copious amounts of painkilling pharmacuticals

My mistake GregR
It's $8.50 per fortnite, I must apologise to all of you for being such a burden , although I do think my child minding, baby sitting and grandchildren taxi service and mentoring services should be worth a lot more

Dear Mr Dog,

That is absolutely pathetic! Effing Indecent. $4.25 per week. Words fail me. I am speechless. I am at a loss for words. Gobsmacked. Struck dumb. Flabbergasted. appalled!!

It must cost them more in admin than that to remit it to you.

I see an article in the Age this last week calling for the re-introduction of the aged pension to all, irrespective of ones own financial situation- made an interesting case for it too.

Don't even think of going to Subway now. Next time I'm passing through I'll shout you lunch.

You have my utmost sympathy.
