walking in the rain

Postby dingelberry » Mon 04 May, 2015 7:24 am

Just spent the weekend roaming around the blue mountains in the rain.
I have friends that wont venture outside in the wet.But for me the rain brings a whole new feel to the place .
Whats your thoughts on walking in the rain ? .

On a track, fine. In thick scrub, I'd rather not. If there's a lot of boulder-hopping - well, I've been that crazy but it's really not a good idea.

As long i have a dry change of gear to sleep in..I'm fine. Although the initial feeling of putting on damp
clothes the next the morning wears a bit thin, but they soon warm up.
I also change to neoprene socks...you still get soggy wrinkly feet at the end of the day, but at least they're warm soggy
wrinkly feet.
...and you may as well call those expensive plastic membrane rain jackets, mobile sauna's....just as wet on the inside as the outside.
But they do cut down the wind chill.
As NNW said above, traveling over wet rocks, can get a bit hairy in the rain.

It's just another one of Mother natures moods......enjoy it. 8)

if you don't like rain, NZ's not a good place to visit at all... 300mm of horizonal in a day on my last trip
from the land of the long white clouds...

I don't mind rain as long as I remain some what dry and warm. Hypothermia is a definite negative for me...

Kind of funny when you think about it. I'll happily keep going as long as I'm not too cold, no matter how bad the weather is, but I won't start a walk if it's really yukky and likely to stay that way.

Today I did my Sunday Adelaide Hills walk from 'Eagle on the Hill' to 'Mount Lofty Summit' & return in the thick fog, heavy rain and at only 7°C.

We dubbed it the 'Misty Mountain Hop'... :D

Once going with a good topic with my walking partner and we soon warmed up and carried on regardless...

Dry boots, umbrella, GoreTex coat, pole and CamelBak made for a very pleasant journey despite the slips, slush and flooded tracks.

Fog and rain do make for mystical walks me thinks.

:)

There's a Norwegian saying that I subscribe to, 'There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.'
