New Tassie Temperature High Record

It's all very exciting.

Tassie officially recorded its highest temperature today and the first time it has reached 41 degrees. It was on Flinders. but that is alright.
Also, with some random, non-specific clicking through weatherzone's website, I found that it has been the hottest ever recorded in Launny and the Launny airport, Fingal, Cressy and Sheffield. There might be more.

I was wrong about the Launny one. But today it is better. From the 2 old weather stations, it is the hottest since 1883 in Launny. Also, from all the old weather stations in the areas with the new ones it is the hottest at the Launny Airport since 1931; Fingal from 1182; St Helens from 1880; Scottsdale from 1953; and in my town of residence Smithton since 1911. It is warm and just hit 35.5

I just got back from Smithton - and yes it's HOT up there! Makes Burnie feel nice and cool even at 32. Glad I'm not in St. Helens right now (or especially glad I'm not playing Tennis in Melbourne at 43.3 currently)! Ouch I wonder if Basslink has died again yet?

Since I moved to Tas, I've been counting my blessings that I'd gotten away from those South-Eastern Australian "scorchers". Ah yes, the mild Tasmanian summer for me!

Not so many years ago I went for extended walks each February and usually didn't find too many really hots days, but over recent years have struck runs of hot days on end. I swore I would avoid walks until late Feb but after a while I weaken and head out and get caught again and once more swear not again. The last crook one was in Feb 2007 when we went to the Eldons and struck mid 30s and and half the SW on fire.

Since being retired I have, except for the aberrations mentioned above, planned walks when the long range forecast is for low 20s. We had planned on a 4 day walk north of the Walls via Little Fisher and Long Tarns, but when the forecast was for hot conditions decided to postpone. Your comment makes me feel happy with my decision and am glad to have avoided the heat there.

Peter- there were 18 walkers in a group heading out on the OT at 1pm today- and the group was looking like it wasn't going to be ready until at least 3pm- the manager of the Transit Centre told them that it'd be 36 on the plateau by then!

Loved it! I arrived home from holiday on my town's hottest day for who-knows-how-long, and went for a walk up the road, and then swam back home again in the river. It was great!

Me too, although Devonport didn't quite make it to 30, it was bliss I was glad I wasn't bushwalking though, walked down Mt Anne once on a stinking hot day with no shade and the sun beating down and I've no wish to do that again.

Yes, it definitely depends on what you're doing. I sometimes tell people that I love hot weather, but not if I have to work in it. I was on holiday all last week, and thoroughly enjoyed the heat. Got back to work this morning, and apparently the offices were stifling last week. I'm glad I didn't have to work in it (or walk up Morraine A in it!).

Here is the evidence of our record high at Riverside, just outside Launceston. The first time I have enjoyed COLD showers in Tassie - reminded me of my two years in Port Moresby where it didn't get to 40°C but 30's with 100% humidity was typical wet season conditions. Cold showers many times a day were the go, and no point in trying to dry off
