Fuel Prices

What are the fuel prices doing around your part of the state?
I've seen up here in Smithton, fuel is back at 133.9 /L for unleaded, which is the cheapest Shell price in Tassie. Strange.

On 2 sept in Hobart I paid $1.37.9 at Caltex Bellerive which has consistently been the cheapest in town

I just did a quick google search and if the info is correct (used Government and market data) we should be paying around $1.00 per litre comparative to previous years barrel prices and us dollar rates.

The 2003 US dollar when oil was $60 a barrel was comparative to todays price of $0.65-$0.70 AUD.
The 2003 barrel price was up to $60 a barrel, today $60 a barrel.
Price of fuel in 2003 was $1.00 per litre when barrel price spiked to $60 a barrel.
Today price of fuel is higher then in 2003 by 20-40% across the country.

So why are we all paying more............?

Devonport is still 147.9 today, Ulverstone 143.9! Guess the cost of wear and tear on the fuel trucks due to short running increases the closer you get to the port where the fuel comes in!

All that exise and gst when the price is up must be hard to resist

Don't want it too dear as most of our BWTstrollers rambles have been a long way from home.

I have a a company 4wd - full personal use- I always say I have a pay rise everytime fuel goes up. Glad I took the car now instead of a pay rise.

Sad but perhaps true....I guess if it's going to be done, let's get it over with, better to make the most of it in our lifetimes, than give it away to gen z, lazy b.e.ggers... tis the horse 'n' cart for them

I heard on the radio today, the national average for fuel is $1.33 a litre.
Today in Devonport it's $1.47

Perhaps Devonport petrol outlets are taking a lesson fromthe state government in procrastination and taking their time with it.
I sarcastically refer to the time it has taken for Basslink fibre to come online - apparently will happen next year - in the news today.
But that's a bit off topic for a fuel discussion, so anyone who wants to pursue that, maybe another topic?

You're probably right. People would adapt fairly quickly.
I'll admit to driving the 1km to work this morning It was 0415 and the earliest I had ever started at work, so that's my excuse anyways.

But, the fuel in Smithton is now at $1.299/L which is nice and friendly.

Yep I couldn't agree more - it was great! Car pooling was even happening - one morning driving between Devonport and Burnie I actually saw six (yep like a whole half a dozen) cars with more than just the driver in them!

(On that topic - anyone want to car pool Dev to Burnie rtn - I'm one of those tools who travels all alone 90km a day )

i car pool at moment. Pass you most days. Notice the Yaris is for sale at moment...you looking to upgrade to a 8 cylider guzzler?

I reckon, it takes a bit of a 'crisis' to kick-start changes. I even heard the old NW rail link being bandied about!

Was $1.4x Can't remember whether x was a 3 or a 7, here in Devonport all week, and on Friday it dropped to $1.33

For sure, now at $1.249.

Driving through Ridgley on the weekend I noticed unleaded was at 1.299 and diesel 1.499. But the poor folk at the Highclere shop, less than 5 minutes away, were still at 1.609 and 1.805 respectively. But that's alright.
